Promotional Pens to Boost a Charity’s Impact.

Promotion is essential in a variety of sectors, including businesses, charities, clubs and other organisations. It doesn’t matter if you are funded by customers, donations or grants, it is still a good method to boost how many people are aware of you or your cause.

For charities, being cost effective and not wasting any money is paramount, because of the nature of their operations. It is vital to get the most out of any expenditure and make sure the preferably small outlay brings returns so charitable work can be maintained.

Promotional pens are a brilliant way to boost your brand whilst costing little in the way of expenditure. Nearly everyone will have the need for a pen throughout the day, whether it is for homework, jotting down information whilst on the phone or just writing a letter. Customised pens with your message on will show your information over and over as people use them, or get passed on. If you think how many pens people end up with without being given them, it can quickly spread a message to audiences that maybe targeted adverts would not. This is especially important for charities that need to keep in the minds of the public, making their goal clear and giving people a reason to remember them.

Although it may seem like a small gesture, a gift of a free pen is always readily accepted as they are an incredibly useful tool

Charities are in difficult positions, balancing money raising and giving aid to those they serve.

to have around, making them a mainstay of promotional methods. Other branded items can be as effective, but most of the time they can be surplus to requirements, being left in drawers or thrown away, helping no-one in the long run.

Sometimes it can be sub conscious marketing, with the message being placed in peoples mind whilst using the item, which is just as effective as targeted adverts in other media forms, which people sometimes ignore more purposefully.

With increased awareness of our planet and the resources we use, it is a more long term plan rather than methods such as flyering which are often just thrown away without being read and cause unwanted litter. A gift of a promotional pen proves a very functional method of putting your message across for a long time and for a great price.

How to Cope with a Dental Emergency Abroad

Planning to travel abroad soon? Dental problems may be the least priority you plan and prepare for when travelling. Sure, preparing your tickets, passports, hotel bookings and luggage is of key importance; however, problems in your oral health may also arise while travelling abroad. Although it rarely happens, dental problems may occur amid your travel abroad. Problems such as losing a tooth or a filling, pain and bleeding caused by gingivitis, falling off of your teeth, losing tooth caps, and root canal treatment are only some of the worst dental problems you can incur abroad. Fortunately, there are some measures you can take in order to fix the problem and continue your adventure.

If your tooth falls off unexpectedly and untimely during your vacation trip to whichever country, the first thing you have to do is to soak the tooth in milk. Milk will keep the surface of the tooth in condition. Next, you will have to find the nearest Cosmetic dentist as soon as possible in order for him/her to implant the tooth back in place.

Although it is possible, individuals who have had their teeth exams a few months before their departure have lesser chances of facing any dental problems during their travel. Furthermore, one should visit the dentist before departing the country with ample amount of time in order for the proper interventions to be made if there are any problems detected in your teeth or gums.

If a tooth cap falls out of place, gently position it back into place until you can find a dentist to fix it for you. If the tooth cap remains off or a bit loose, this may cause bothering pain and so one should take into account the problem immediately. If you’ve lost a filling from one of your teeth, one way to fix it is to chew on some sugar-free gum. Apply a stick of gum where the filling should be in order to lessen the pain. You should then rush to the nearest dentist to get it fixed properly as the gum won’t be a permanent solution.

Having dental procedures while in another country may be risky as the dentist or clinic you choose may not be the right or safe one. You should be wary of their practices as well as the quality of their work and sterility of their equipment. With this doubtful factors, you should make it a point to book a flight back home as early as possible. If not possible, you should ascertain that the dentist and the clinic has the proper credentials and qualifications to operate on such matter. If there are none, then look for another reliable and credible clinic.

Radio advertisements promote dentistry

Research shows that about 41 percent of dentists, ranging from Nottingham dentists to those in more rural areas, use radio advertisements to promote their services and to attract new patients over a broader geographical area.

Adverts may cover topics about sedation for greater relaxation, cosmeticdentistryguide.co.uk/articles/root-canal.html therapy to remove infections and cosmetic treatments for smile makeovers or orthodontic care. Many dentists have recognized that patients are willing to travel to get the quality treatment they need.

Some dentists feel that advertising cheapens the image of dentistry, while others use not only Internet but radio as a means to advertise dental businesses for sale or even dental items and technology for sale. Radio advertising can be used for dental patient marketing and education to dental management consulting too.

Dental regulations do not particularly limit how dentists choose to advertise, and those dentists with radio advertising experience suggest changing adverts between radio channels to reach a wider audience and people with different interests.

Besides blogs, radio is also used as a means for patients to express feedback about dental treatment experiences that show trends over time, and contribute to improvements in dental practice and procedure for better patient care.

Lasers are not only for exterminating aliens

Contrary to what some may think, lasers are not just for laser hair removal and defeating evil aliens in science fiction films.  Laser technology is a vast and varied field with lasers of different types being used in many areas of life you might not expect.

One such area is infertility treatment, there a number of procedures related to this condition which utilise lasers, including laser assisted hatching.

Laser assisted hatching is used in cases where fertilisation has been judged too difficult to achieve within the body, this can be due to many factors including genetic conditions or disease on the maternal side, or things such as low sperm motility from the male contributor.  In such cases the eggs and sperm can be combined externally in a laboratory and then introduced into the uterus where they will hopefully affix to the uterine wall and implant themselves, resulting in pregnancy.

The problem is that externally fertilised eggs develop a harder outer shell, this makes it less likely implantation of an embryo will be achieved.  So a very precise laser is used to create a small gap in this outer wall of the egg, weakening its structure and leading to greater chances of the embryo being able to hatch from the egg and implant itself in the wall of the uterus for a successful conception.

So for those who think the contribution of lasers to healthcare is limited to tattoo removal, you could be surprised if you look into it.

Tooth extraction isn’t as scary as it sounds

Tooth extraction is commonly recognised as a solution for those with seriously decayed teeth that cannot be crowned or filled because the decay is so severe. Another common reason is that the teeth start to become overcrowded and misaligned and a dental job is required to sort it out. This is generally caused when the wisdom teeth grow through and there is not enough room in the mouth for them.  More often than not the wisdom teeth will be removed if this happens. Sometimes it is not the case that people are having to have tooth extraction because they have simply not picked up and used a toothbrush and toothpaste.

Recently Essex dentists have stated that a reason for tooth extraction which most people are unfamiliar with are serious medical problems. Many of the general public are unaware that diseases and cancers often require tooth extractions before treatments. Unless they have been in the situation or know somebody who has people are generally not aware that treatments such as chemotherapy weaken the immune system leaving teeth vulnerable to infection and other medical treatments in Jeopardy. This is also the case with organ transplants. Before having an organ transplant patients are required to take certain drugs which weaken the immune system, this is again a cause for tooth extraction.

What dental tourism can do for you

Dental tourism is when people go abroad for dental treatments that are too expensive in their own country. It’s not a new concept, but with the shortage of NHS dentists in Halifax and across the UK at the moment, it is becoming more popular.

Why Become a Dental Tourist?

Dental tourism has many advantages, most obviously the cost. Dentistry in the UK can be way out of some people’s price range, but in countries such as Turkey, Hungary, Thailand and India (popular dental tourist destinations), the treatment is much cheaper. You can get equally good treatment in these countries as in the UK, and sometimes much quicker. Most people combine their treatment with a holiday so that the cost of the flight is worthwhile.

Disadvantages

Obviously if you need a long-term treatment such as braces, dental tourism is not a good option. The same applies to any treatment where you need several check ups. There have also been reports of people coming home in severe pain and needing thousands of pounds worth of treatment to rectify the damage caused by inadequate dentists abroad. This can be due to the fact that not all foreign dentists have the same high standards of examination as UK dentists, and that people underestimate potential complications with their treatment. Similarly, agents often sell these packages as a quick fix solution, so you should be aware that if a treatment should take a month to complete over here, then it should take just as long anywhere else.  It’s wise to check out the dentist’s level of English, their qualifications, and the surgery’s reputation before you go.

Researches and new devices are the mainstay of today’s medical world. People who have tried losing weight through exercise and diet and were not able to, only had the option of going through weight loss surgery. The surgeries that were mainly performed were Gastric Band and Gastric Bypass surgery.

These surgeries where have a lot of benefits, also have a lot of risks as well. Scientists have recently conducted researches to find a solution that would exclude surgery as an option. They have been successful to build a device known as intragastric stimulator. This stimulator is placed under the skin of the abdomen.

This procedure is done by making a small cut on the abdomen and the stimulator is placed. Amazingly that is all and this procedure is done. This intragastric stimulator is controlled by a remote control. Now the next question comes as to how this intragastric controller works.

You press the remote control, this will send the signals to the intragastric stimulator and the stimulator will in turn pass on signals to the brain telling it that the stomach is full. This is a very smart device and is still in the trial phase and will soon be available throughout the world. It is said to be the future that will completely change the way the weight loss problem is dealt by surgeons.

The intragastric stimulator is fitted with a battery that can work for five years. This device is similar like a pacemaker. With the passage of time, there will be more studies conducted on the device, which will prove more of its efficacy and will be a new option for all those who want to lose weight and do not want to go through a surgical procedure.

A researcher at Tel Aviv University’s School of Mechanical Engineering has developed a new process for coating dental implants which greatly improves their performance and lessens the chance of a patient’s body rejecting the implant. Professor Noam Eliaz hopes that the process he has pioneered will help improve the quality of life for patients with implants.

Surgeons today commonly reconstruct joints using substitute metal joints in place of a patient’s natural joints. To ensure that the artificial joint integrates well with the natural bone structure, metal implants are usually coated with a synthetic version of hydroxyapatite. Because natural bones contain apatite, a coating which contains a synthetic version of apatite tricks the body into considering the implant a natural material. The coating is therefore essential to the body’s acceptance of the artificial joint. Professor Eliaz has discovered a way to improve the functionality of implants by changing the way this coating is applied.

The synthetic hydroxyapatite coating remains the same, but instead of the coating being applied via the usual plasma spraying technique, the coating is instead deposited electrochemically by placing the metallic implant into an electrolyte solution. When electric current is introduced to the bath, the coating adheres to the metal implant. Using the new technique, the researchers at TAU observed a 33% decrease in delamination of the implants, which suggest that implants coated electrochemically will have fewer instances of materials failure, allowing patients who receive these implants to keep them longer and have a higher quality of life. When viewed under a microscope, the electrochemically-applied hydroxyapatite coating is almost indistinguishable from the natural material. A well-adhered coating also decreases the chance of harmful materials leaching into a patient’s bloodstream from the metal of an implant.

Professor Eliaz recently travelled to San Francisco in May 2009 to present his research to the Electrochemical Society, and a third-party research study was published in the Acta Biomaterialia journal which showed the superior performance of electrochemically-applied coatings compared to plasma sprayed coatings over an initial 12 week study period.

The next step for Professor Eliaz and his fellow researchers at Tel Aviv University is to try to use nanoparticles to make their technique even more effective. Nanoparticles are minutely tiny particles; Eliaz hopes his team can find a way to incorporate nanoparticles of biological materials or even nanoparticles of drugs into the coatings themselves. His team believes this will be possible because the electrochemical procedure they developed uses lower temperatures during the coating process, which will allow drugs or organic materials to survive the coating process intact. Adding such nanoparticles to coatings could reduce the risk of infections after surgeries and perhaps even spur a patient’s natural bone to grow and heal.
